THE CONNAUGHT CLUB – UPDATE

W Bro Anthony Muirhead – the Chairman of the Connaught Club – gives an update with what’s going on with the young masons in London.

As spring approaches (!) the Connaught Club has much to look forward to, with
the new Club year beginning on the 1st of March.

In the middle of the month, the Club will be holding its AGM, whereupon I have the honour to have been nominated as Chairman for an additional year . We will also be electing other officers of the committee as well as our executive members.

The AGM is always a social occasion, and we look forward to dining at the Nag’s Head after the formal meeting.

January saw our Worshipful Mastermind quiz take place at the Freemasons Arms with some challenging questions posed by our quizmaster, Bro Mungo Walls. The ‘back-to-school’ round with questions
from exams taken by 13-year-olds was particularly challenging!

Sadly, due to the increased threat from Coronavirus (don’t forget to wash your hands, people), the Club has had to postpone our planned trip to Warsaw to visit Poland’ s first English-speaking lodge (with one of our ‘old boys’ being a founding member). We look forward to visiting the lodge in the autumn.

On Friday the 22nd of May, the Club will hold its annual Open Reception in the Grand Vestibule of Freemasons’ Hall. The event is open to everyone; masons, non-masons, friends and family. It is a relaxed and informative evening with a buffet meal and wine afterwards. We have a range of speakers, including a representative of our charity.

Please visit the Club’s website for more information and booking.

We continue our drive to raise funds for our charity this year (the Maytree Centre; a sanctuary for the suicidal), and any donations would be most gratefully welcome.

We have a Virgin Money Giving page – please search for the Connaught Club and select the Maytree Mountain Challenge page. Every penny you donate really does save lives. £10 will pay for the recruitment and DBS check for a new befriender volunteer and £50 will fund the costs of telephone and email support for 10 people in a suicide crisis.
